This is interesting. I've had workshops with all the same instructors, except Van Hasslet. but what a difference in our styles. And I think this is good. We should learn from instructors, but not become clones.

Grizrev, yes, agreed. It is a wonder to draw inspiration from these many great teachers out there and then 'cross fertilize'. Each one has something different to offer, and I enjoy all the variations that emerge.

Jim, I can see the influence of all those mentors in your paintings, both in use of color and design. Actually, you haven't picked up on Charles Reid's consistent use of spattering -- just color and design, which is similar to the general style of the other artists you mention. Isn't artistic cross-fertilization and genetic history interesting to contemplate in the development of our own styles -- the way we see and artistically interpret what we see?

Thanks George. I appreciate that. And no, Grizrev, I haven't studied with Reid. I actually have been influenced by Mel Stabin quite a bit. Also studied with Frank Webb, Alex Powers, Skip Lawrence, Don Andrews, Tony van Hasslett. I admire Reid's work, just haven't had the chance to study with him.

Jim, your work bears a remarkable likeness to that of Charles Reid. Have you studied or worked together?
